In a past few years, Sremska Mitrovica became a home of numerous foreign investors. What benefits brought this to the citizents and city itself?
In recent years Sremska Mitrovica has managed to attract close to 150 million euros of foreign investment. Today there are sixteen foreign companies in the city. The biggest benefits are definitely the new jobs. In the previous period, about 3,000 people were employed in these companies. Soon that number will increase further when the “Mitros Fleischwaren” starts with its production, as well as US company "Luvata", which will soon expand its production facilities.
Settled on river Sava, 75 km away from Belgrade, and 59km from Novi Sad, near E70 (Belgrade-Zagreb) highway, Sremska Mitrovica has an excellent position for attracting investors. Beside this, what would be additional advantages that make Sremska Mitrovica desirable location?
Fully equipped industrial zones, fast, attentive administration, excellent cooperation with all levels of government and the encouraging relation towards investors, beside excellent position, represent a major advantage of Mitrovica. In addition, a big plus are the recommendations of investors who already have their companies in our town.
Investors profiles are very different – automotive, food, metal, wood, shipbuilding industry, etc. What are their experiences in doing business in Sremska Mitrovica and what do they see as the most important advantages that Sremska Mitrovica has?
I used to think that the price of land, the location or benefits related to the constructions are the most important to investors. However, definitely the most important is investor’s impression. It is important to win investor’s confidence and show willingness to fulfill promises within the agreed time and in the manner in which it was planned.
For the third year in a row, Sremska Mitrovica is among the winners of the Cities of the Future with 10th place in Top 10 Micro European Cities of the Future 2016/17 for Economic Potential. At the same time this is an award and obligation as well. What are the future plans in developing Sremska Mitrovica and making it even better place for living and doing business?
For us, this award is a confirmation of the previous work of the city administration, the additional security to foreign investors who already have their offices in the city and definitely a good recommendation for those foreign investors who plan to come to Sremska Mitrovica.
Now we have to deal with a great challenge, new investors come to us with the production based on modern technological solutions and they require a higher level of employee training. It is our job to provide it to them and to our city through a dual training, adaptation of school curriculum, as well as the opening of higher education institutions.
Investment in education and infrastructure projects, such as the underpass, is our next step in creating a better climate and attracting new investors.
In your opinion, what differs Sremska Mitrovica from other cities and municipalities in Serbia in attracting investments?
We have an administration that is able to carry out the project from the first step of providing permits to the final monitoring of the functioning of the economic object. Office for Local Economic Development is available to potential investors not only from the moment when we receive a letter of intent to the closure of the contact and recommendations to further levels of authority, but also to the very end of the investment itself. We are fully regulated system in terms of urban planning. An investor who buys location can immediately access the process of obtaining building permits. Well-decorated urban scenery, among other things, is one of the reasons why the Mitrovica is attractive to investors.
Do you expect some new investment projects in near future?
Our plan is to continue cooperation with “Mitros”, “Luvata”, “Cooper standard” in expansion of production capacity, and also we have announce arrival of one new company “Drop in bioenergy”.
