 Welcome to Sremska Mitrovica


 

The City of Sremska Mitrovica is the administrative, business and cultural center of Srem region. Its located in the Vojvodina province in north part of Serbia, on the left bank of the Sava river. Its 75km away from Belgrade, 30 km from border with Croatia, on highway E70, and 35 km from Bosna and Herzegovina border. It covers area of 760km2 and is a home for 80,000 habitants.

Sremska Mitrovica is also one of the oldest cities in Europe. Archaeologists have found a trace of organized human life dating from the 7000 BC onwards. Roman Sirmium, as it was the name of the ancient city, was a home of numerous Roman emperors.

Verification of its extreme importance in the context of the Roman Empire Sirmium received at the time of the Tetrarchy when it became one of the four capitals of the empire.

Favorable location, infrastructural equipment, industrial zones’ perfection and equipment, local self-government’s openness and hard work have attracted around 150 million euros worth of investments in Sremska Mitrovica during the last years.

Main industries are car, food and shipbuilding industry. The City has two available industrial zones – Industrial Zone North II that is positioned immediately next to the Belgrade – Zagreb international motorway, at 55 km from Belgrade on the way to Zagreb, and covers area of 150,000 sqm; and industrial zone Lake, located directly along the Sremska Mitrovica – Šabac regional road, distance from the Belgrade – Zagreb motorway is 1,4 km (especially suitable for production facilities), and covers area of 240,000 sqm.

Sremska Mitrovica is also internationally recognized as an favorable investment destination – in 2014/2015 according to the Financial Times fDi Magazine it was among top ten micro cities of the future for cost effectiveness, and in it was also acknowledged as one of the winners of the Cities of the Future with 10th place in Top 10 Micro European Cities of the Future 2016/17 for Economic Potential.
