The Pleasure of Love- The 56th October Salon

„The pleasure of love lasts only a moment. The grief of love lasts a lifetime.“

Jean-Paul-Égide Martini

Do not miss the 56th Belgrade October Salon, to be held from 23rd September to 06th November, 2016 in Belgrade`s City Museum and Cultural Center of Belgrade.

This October Salon will concentrate on what role emotions are playing in contemporary art and how it may be framed in ways that are neither banal nor kitsch. This may include the not-so-simple pleasures of love, humor,  horror and any other perspectives that art may bring to bear on the fragility of  human experience and life which, in itself, may have a transient or long-lasting  impact.

The 56th October Salon, will be composed of around 60 artists from Serbia,  the  Balkan region and the world chosen directly by the Artistic Director and  from an  open submission. This years curator is David Elliott.

The former curators of international Salon were: Anda Rottenberg, Darka Radosavljević and Nebojša Vilić, René Block, Lorand Hegyi, Bojana Pejić, Branislava Anđelković, Johan Poussete and Celia Prado, Galit Eilat and Alenka Gregorič, Branislav Dimitrijević and Mika Hannula, Red Min(e)d, Nicolaus Schafhausen and Vanessa Joan Müller.

October Salon is a representative manifestation of accomplishments in the field of visual art in Serbia, funded by the City of Belgrade. Back in 1960, it started as an exhibition of the best works of fine arts, and went on to become, by 1967, an important review of current tendencies in applied arts, as well. With tradition of half a century, it represents a significant segment in study of contemporary Serbian art. It has become a reference point in Serbian culture, a representative muster of visual artists and a grand exhibition selected and curated by accomplished connoisseurs in the field. In its history, it changed conception and organisational patterns, but remained a formidable challenge to creative consciousness.
