CITY OF ŠABAC

 

Šabac is the largest city and economic and cultural center of Mačva and Podrinje regions with over 115,000 inhabitants. It covers area of 795km2 and is located in north-western Serbia, enclosed by the Sava and Drina rivers, at the crossroads of the most important road, rail and water routes. It is close to the borders of EU / Croatia, and Bosnia and Herzegovina. There are two point of access to the Pan European Corridor X, just 25km away from the City. Šabac is located only 60 km away from the international airport "Nikola Tesla"; less than 100km from Belgrade, the Capital of Serbia, and 68 km from Novi Sad, largest University Centers.

Economy

Šabac is an old City with solid industrial tradition and cultural heritage. The location of the City makes it attractive not only for transport of goods, but also for people since its excellent transport connections and vicinity of Belgrade and Novi Sad.

Šabac hosts the largest Industrial Zone in Serbia and regionally, with over 200ha of it in the Free Zone status, equipped with infrastructure, utilities and roads. Free Zone has construction land with all planning required while transfer of ownership is in just 35 days.

Main industries that are active in Šabac are chemical, pharmaceutical, metal processing, food and construction related industries, and services. Also, most attractive industries recently are: services, assembly (electronic, automotive), tech and energy demanding investments (chemical, pharm and others) and food processing.

Culture and Tourist Atractions

Parallel with the beginning of development of modern Serbian state in the early 19th century Šabac became the cultural centre of Serbia, sustaining a high level of cultural development till today. Cultural institutions active in Šabac are Library, Theater, National Museum, Intermunicipal Historical Archive, Cultural Centre.  Apart from them, numerous associations also have a significant part in the cultural lifeof the city, such as Šabac Visual Artists Association, or cultural-artistic associations like Abrašević, Folk Dance Ensemble Hajduk Stanko and Artistic Ensemble Čivija. Šabac promotes its culture and its history in the best way via tourism, as there are over twenty events in Šabac during a year the most important being The Roses of Lipolist, Čivijada, Čivija Carnival, Equestrian Events, International Swimming Marathon Jarak – Šabac and numerous other events.
