Zrenjanin – City of healthy food, rivers and famous athletes
 

The City of Zrenjanin is situated in the center of the Serbian part of the Banat region, on the banks of the Rivers Begej and Tisza. It is around 70 km away from Belgrade, and about 50 km from Novi Sad, which is also the distance to the present border with the EU (Romania), which makes its position a particularly important transition center and potential resource in the directions North–South and East–West. 

With area of 1,326 km2, Zrenjanin is the biggest city in the AP of Vojvodina and the second in the Republic of Serbia, with around 123 thousand inhabitants and over 20 nations living in it. It is political, economic, cultural, and sports center.

Economy

The terrain is distinctively plain and accordingly the structure of economy and industry classifies Zrenjanin as the one among bigger agro-industrial centers in the Republic of Serbia The biggest economic potential of the region is in agricultural, cattle production and freshwater fish production. In Zrenjanin there about 100,000 ha of high quality arable land and most grown crops are corn, wheat, sunflower, barley, oil and sugar beet.

The most developed part of the economy is industry, and among many industrial branches the most important ones are as follows: food industry, textile industry, metal industry, chemical industry, automotive industry, production of oil and natural gas. At the same those sectors are the most interesting for the investments – food, textile, metal, chemical, automotive industry, as well as IT services.

Zrenjanin is already home of various investors, and some of them are Draexlmaier (Germany), Modital (Italy), Fulgar (Italy), Geze (Germany), Mehler Protective System (Germany),Dijamant- Agrokor (Croatia), Mlekoprodukt - Bongrain SAS (France), Mecaplast (France), Aviv Park Zrenjanin (Israel), Tecnostrutture (Italy), Kolpa san (Slovenia) , Pharmas (Croatia), Dafar (Italy), LK Armature (Sweden).

Free Zone Zrenjanin covers an area of 92 ha in three locations – Southeast (around 52 ha), Bagljaš (around 41ha), Cvetna (around 7ha) – of which 61 ha is a free land for greenfield investments, 7,554m² is for office space, 36,785 m² for warehouses, and 17,966 m2 for open storage space.

Zrenjanin holds NALED Certificate as a municipality with a favorable business environment.

Infrastructure

Due to the fact that is located near Novi Sad and Belgrade, Zrenjanin has very good connection to the motorways E-70 and E-75.

Also, Zrenjanin has its own airport, which is the largest C class airport in the Balkans, with asphalt runway and necessary infrastructure suitable for small passenger, agricultural and cargo planes. Airport can be reconstructed to service larger planes with a relatively small investment.

Zrenjanin has a port on Begej river which is the part of Danube-Rein–Mein waterway network system connecting the North and the Black Sea.

Starting from 2006, when it was awarded as a The Most Attractive Town for Investments in Serbia, Zrenjanin continuously receives domestic and international investment related awards. Some of them are The best in Serbia, second in South East Europe by the World Bank Project “Doing Business in South East Europe 2008” regarding the easy of doing business, The best promotion of investment potential at “Invest in Serbia” competition by MEGA, USAID, SIEPA, NALED (2008), The best in South East Europe by the World Bank Project “Doing Business in South East Europe 2011” regarding the easy of enforcing a contract, The best in Serbia by the World Bank Project “Doing Business in South East Europe 2011” regarding the ease of dealing with construction permits, The best among the all Free zones in the world by Incentives, FDi Intelligence (2013), One of the top ten European Cities of the Future 2014/15 for micro-sized European cities, in the category Cost Effectiveness, awarded from fDi Intelligence, One of the top 8 Free zones in the world by Start up support, awarded from fDi Intelligence (2015), etc.

Zrenjanin is a hometown of world-known athletes, European, World and Olympic Games Medalists, such are: Ivana Spanovic, Vladimir and Nikola Grbic, Dejan Bodiroga, Maja Ognjenovic, Bridzitka Molnar, Ivan Lendjer, etc.
