Fostering the sustainable development of Serbia and WB6 region

Development Agency of Serbia (RAS) participated at the EU–Western Balkans Investment Forum, held on October 13–14, 2025 at the Palace of Congresses in Tirana. The Forum was organized by the Albanian Investment Promotion Agency (AIDA), with the support of the European Commission.

At the opening, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen called on European investors to seize the opportunity to invest in the Western Balkans describing the region, among other, as a “strategic hub” for Europe’s clean energy transition. Following the opening session, officials of the WB6 economies signed several important investment agreements.

  

Mr. Nikola Janković, Director of the RAS Sector for International Cooperation signed Joint statement with the European Commission (DG ENEST) and ElevenEs on support for the expansion of ElevenEs battery production in Serbia. ElevenEs plans to expand its existing pilot plant and build a 1 GWh LFP battery cell factory in Subotica. Their factory will provide state-of-the-art, highly efficient and cost-effective LFP battery cells to be used for mass transit, energy storage and European industrial decarbonization.

Together with the European Commission (DG ENEST) and Swiss Rockets, Mr. Janković also signed Joint Statement on Support for the Establishment of a Next Generation Sequencing Laboratory in Serbia. Swiss Rockets Serbia has announced its intention to invest EUR 12 million in a Next Generation Sequencing (NGS) laboratory within the BIO4 Campus in Serbia. This laboratory will provide advanced sequencing services in oncology and prenatal screening, in line with the standards of leading European hospitals, and will support personalized medicine through modern diagnostics and targeted treatments. The European Commission (DG ENEST) and RAS encourage the successful implementation of this initiative, recognizing it as a key, flagship project, aligned with the EU Biotech Law, the Digital Decade 2030, the Global Gateway Strategy and the EU Growth Plan for the Western Balkans.

  

Also, Mr. Vladimir Tomic, Director of the Sector for Strategic Investments at RAS, delivered a presentation on RAS activities during a joint meeting with representatives from investment promotion agencies across the EU and the region. On the second day of the Forum, Mr. Tomic participated as a panelist in the "Manufacturing and Critical Raw Materials" session.
