JFE Opens First Factory in Europe – in Serbia

An investment worth over 50 million euros brings 200 new jobs.

 

INĐIJA, April 8, 2025 – Today, the factory of the Japanese company "JFE Shoji Serbia" was officially opened in the industrial zone of Inđija, marking the first production location for this global giant in Europe. The factory, spanning 18,000 square meters, is equipped with state-of-the-art technology and is designed for the production of motor cores used in a wide range of applications—from household electrical appliances to auxiliary and main motors for the automotive industry.

The investment, worth over 50 million euros, will create 200 new jobs and represents a significant step forward in the development of the automotive, electrical, and electronics industries in Serbia. The factory opening follows the groundbreaking ceremony held in March 2024 by Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić, in the presence of company representatives.

The ceremony was attended by high-ranking officials, including the First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance in the interim mandate, Siniša Mali, the President of the Provincial Government Maja Gojković, the Minister of Economy in the interim mandate, Adriana Mesarović, the President of Inđija Municipality Marko Gašić, the Ambassador of Japan to Serbia Akira Imamura, Senior Advisor to "JFE Shoji Corporation" Toshinori Kobayashi, as well as the General Director of "JFE Shoji Serbia" Masaomi Hamauzu and representatives of the Development Agency of Serbia.

Toshinori Kobayashi, Senior Advisor to "JFE Shoji Corporation" and Director of "JFE Holdings," thanked the Serbian government and local authorities for their substantial support during the construction of the factory, emphasizing the importance of this project for the further development of the industry. He stated that "JFE Shoji" firmly believes that the factory will contribute not only to the development of the automotive and electrical industries in Serbia but also to the broader European market, while strengthening the economic ties between Serbia and Japan.

The Ambassador of Japan to Serbia, Akira Imamura, congratulated the successful opening of the factory, emphasizing that the investment is significant for bilateral economic relations and that Serbia provides a favorable investment environment for foreign investors. He added that the factory is equipped with the latest equipment and will produce key products for the automotive and electrical industries.

The Minister of Finance in the interim mandate, Siniša Mali, conveyed the greetings of Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić, stressing that the factory was built in a record time of only 12 months, which demonstrates that Serbia is keeping up with modern business trends. He pointed out that Serbia set a record last year in attracting foreign direct investments, reaching 5.2 billion euros, confirming its status as an attractive destination for leading global investors.
